I was gonna put bleach blonde highlights in it. But my friend decided to be a ****** and go do that to her hair after I told her I was going to do it. Our hairs about the same length and we both have sideswept bangs (I'm getting them tomorrow. Oh and by the way....Round face with curls.... sideswept bangs or no?). I think blue is great with dirty blonde hair.
Try lowlights or maybe something like purple or pink highlights. The purple will fade out to grey and it looks awesome.
Do lowlights or some stoplight red streaks. Or heck, just dye it all black.
Dye it all blonde and then get brown hilights it looks really good, no matter how long your hair is

i would stay away from the bleach blonde highlights now, its too late in the season. we are coming up on fall and winter and anyone who's into fashion knows you go with the colors of the season.
if you darken your base color to a dark blond with low-lights, Carmel highlights that would look amazing. bangs are never out of style. go with the bangs. if you cute your curls as well, try and get a straight/curly friendly hair cut, meaning a cut that will look great straight then look even better curly.

even tho i dont think ur hair will dont go stright to black go from color stage that ur at to a darker and darker color of what you want and that way if u dont like it when ur almost there most likely ull be able to change the color to something else before u go any darker

I suggest you put some lemon juice in your hair and then go out in the sun for like an hour and your highlights will stand out and look natural. Also, you could put some vineger in your shampoo and wash it into your hair, rinse, then go out in the sun to dry it. I prefer this because you will make your highlights stand out, yet it still looks natural. Redheaded people stand out. They are unique. Why would you wanna follow the crowd?

Are highlights a good idea for my hair? if so, what colour(s) should i go with?
I'm getting a little bored with my hair, and i thought it'd be kinda fun to get some new colour in there. I don't want to completely change the colour, because it's actually quite nice, but i want it to look a little more interesting. But i'm no expert, so if anyone thinks it's a bad idea, i'd like your input. I would also like advice on what colours would be good for my hair
Also, if you have any tips in general for my hair, i'd be happy to hear those too.

I don't think you should get highlights i think you should try straightening it!! You may think its straight but once you straighten it it will probably look really good!! If your mom or sister ahs one get them to do it!! If you like it okay, if not then don't worry about it!!

don't overdo it, because you might end up looking like a chav (and you wouldn't want that)
go for flashes instead! they're more striking, and you cant tell when they're growing outmozila

firstly the reason that your hair hasnt gotten lighter than the ginger stage is because OTC colours are formulated for use on natural dark blonde hair - they rely on hydrogen peroxide for lift (which only has the ability to lift 2 shades, its better use is for making a haircolourant permanent by opening up the hairshafts to allow the colour to penetrate and develop) anybody naturally (or un-naturally) darker than dark blonde need to use bleach in order to go blonde. yes a full head of highlights will work because a hardresser in a salon will (hopefully) be smart enough to use bleach. will your hair be able to cope with yet another chemcal process? - only strand tests will tell.

Red highlights on brown hair can either look horrible or great it all depends on the type of red. If you gave medium/light brown hair then the type of red you should get is more like an auburn red, or something like that! basically any red with brown undertones to it!

I had my hair japanese straightened (but not stick straight) 6 months ago. is it a good idea to get highlights?

I would consult a stylist because it's hard to say if your hair is stable enough to handle getting highlights after the stress of chemical processes. I personally think that it may leave your hair dried out, the Japanese perms are pretty damaging to the hair, especially over time. Ok so heres the deal.... after you get retouched get a deep conditioning treatment. then after the recomended two weeks you can get the highlights and again get a deep condition. then buy a moisturizing deep conditioner (i recomend Cloud 9 by Sebastion) and do that once a week. and make sure you are using a shampoo and conditioner made for colored hair! FYI my hair gets colored often and a blow dryer and flat iron used on it every day and is just fine because i deep condition it and everything.
you could do it, but be prepared for your hair to be extremely dry and damaged.
I used to dye my hair with Koolaid. :)

Hi! I'm Chinese and my hair is naturally dark brownish to black. The top layer has natural brown highlights from the sun, but it's more of an all-over color, rather than streaky highlights.
I was thinking of getting streaky highlights. Do you think this is a good idea, or would it look trashy?
I also can't decide if I should go for a light brown, or more of a reddish brown. (The natural highlights I have are already brown, so I thought getting more brown highlights might end up looking too brown?)

Ok so ive been to the hairdressers and had my usual highlights done but when i got home i noticed when i tied my hair back that one side is quite streaky. It doesn't look right.
Now i have a Schwarzkopt home dye kit in my house and im wondering if you think i could dye maybe 4 or 5 strands of hair (the darker bits that are in between the highlighted bits) just to make it look more even? The boxed dye is the sorta same colour as my highlights.
Do you think this could work, it doesn't need to be perfect or anything.
Also. The hairdressers use foil, is this just the same as tin-foil or kitchen foil? Do you think i should use that?
Give me ideas ppl i cant be bothered driving alll the way back to the hairdressers to get them to do this.

if you go to a hair supplies like sallys or alta they have the foil if thats what you want to do. i actually dont go anywhere to get highlights done i do them at home i know sallys for a fact has a package for blonde high lights and different shades do not bleach your hair for highlights you mix it with solution pull it through a cap put your mix on and cover than you use a hair dryer for ten minutes keeping ti warm and they look just as good. if the salon did way to much blonde pull through a cap where there is to much blonde and get a brown close to your color and do low lights

Just bleach all of the hair that you want lighter then do the highlights. While they are processing take the darker color and apply it to all of the hair that is not in the foils. Rinse the color out, then pull the foils and rinse them.

If you want just highlights, maybe you could go for something to compliment the brown. Depending on your skin type, I would give black highlights a try. Red comes out too easily in brown hair so don't try that.

My sister gave me a couple random highlight streaks when we were doing her hair, its now the next day and i was wondering, is it safe for me to go and dye it ALL platinum blonde or could this be a very bad idea. You should leave your hair the way it is! Highlights are not a good idea go in the sun. More and you will get high light like I got! I got jet black hair and I got brown in my hair it comes from being in the sun in the summer!

There is normally teachers walking about making sure the students are doing the job right, and if a student isn't sure the teacher will come over and do it.

Actually it was the exact opposite at the hair school/college I went to. The price was almost the same as at a beauty salaon. So I really think you should compare costs when you go to a cosmatlogy school. If the price is about the same, consider the fact that a salon may be better as the stylist at a salon has more experience.
Given the price is less a) the students are supervised ;and b) in the worst possible scenario, hair grows back.
Might I just add the thought that saving twenty dollars in this way makes you a good steward :)

Hmm ... black hair ... this color is sometimes pretty tricky to work with ... color wise of course ... but when i do see highlights in black hair the colors are occasionally a semi light brown as well as a red or auburn color! Don't do blonde because i think the colors would clash ... unless of course you get the perfect shade! So good luck in deciding .. i hope i helped you and don't worry anything you decide to do .. I personally love scene hair when it has a bit of colour in it, like pink, blue etc. If you like, you can get clip in streaks in whatever colour you want (blonde, black, white, red, blue, pink, green etc.) and you can just put them in and take them out whenever you want! Its a good choice if your going for a DIY look, because streaks can be hard to pull off on your own.
For the scene look, also opt for massively over-sized bows (hot pink looks good in darker colours and baby blue in white blondes)
To finish off the look, you could also go with the heavy eyeliner and massively teased hair.

I think you should go for it, I think the scene look looks great. The only thing I suggest not doing is dying it too dark before bleaching blonde in. My hair was dyed dark black and I got some pretty bright blonde streaks bleached in it and the blonde hair was so dead. I really regretted it afterwards.

I brought a picture to the hairdresser and she said that she was going to make my top layers like 5 inches cause my hairs wavy and if it rained Id have a crown of poof!
But I got my hair dyed like that! Except not blonde I got royal blue.
I have part of my bangs dyed, a streak underneath, and a streak in the front, and she left a little blonde in. I think it looks good with my dark brown hair.
Id say ask for mediumish top layers (theyre easier to manage)
And to leave a little variation in the color (blonde, your color, the dark brown) So its scene, but not overdone scene

Hmmmm, you could try like honey colored highlights and maybe some red tinted lowlights. But i would not get very red. I would go with like a reddish brown. Like the colors that YOU think are pretty. Or i guess if you don't like dark brown and light blonde you could get low lights that are only a shade darker than your actual hair color. I would use blonde, but only if your looking to make a statement, it would stand out quite a bit but I think it would look good, lighter browns also look good and aren't to distracting, they simply add a little something. well ur black/brown hair is not going to take to a light color unless its straight up bleach(and even then it might not turn THAT light!)
i had dark hair and i wanted it my blond again...so this is what i did:
got a color stipper (coloropps..you can buy it at walgreens or rite aid..and it actually does take all the black out)
once you got ypur hair stripper (and deep conditioned!!) done your hair should be alot lighter!!

well ur black/brown hair is not going to take to a light color unless its straight up bleach(and even then it might not turn THAT light!)
i had dark hair and i wanted it my blond again...so this is what i did:
got a color stipper (coloropps..you can buy it at walgreens or rite aid..and it actually does take all the black out)
once you got ypur hair stripper (and deep conditioned!!) done your hair should be alot lighter!!

If it still doesn't work, then go to a hairdresser, and make them put black hair extencions in your girlfriends hair, make sure they put them close to her scalp so any orange left will just look like orange highlites.

What may have happened is that she didn't leave the highlight solution on her hair long enough. If she has dark brown hair she would need to keep the solution on longer. I've had highlights before and have dark brown hair and if you don't use the highlight solution right you'll end up with orange streaks instead of blond. But you are correct she will most likely need to dye it back to original color and try again. Or pay out more money and get it professionally done and not worry about it. Good Luck.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me... I've been getting my hair done at a salon but lately I haven't had the time or money to go back %26amp; get them touched up. I naturally have really dark brown, almost black hair (I'm Asian) %26amp; fair skin color, %26amp; my highlights are pretty light, almost blondish. The roots have grown out quite a lot so it's not looking too good right now! =o(
I used to use the Feria highlift browns specially made for lightening dark hair but I noticed that on the box there's a warning not to use it on highlighted hair. Any advice/ideas? Should I just try to use one of those highlighting kits to touch up the highlights myself? Or possibly darken it so it's all one solid color? I'm not sure if dying it all dark would be a huge disaster though since it's already highlighted, it might come out all uneven... bleh.

I used the same brand Feria and it burned by hair since the day I used it, I don't think you should use it cuzz it ruined my hair.
You really do need to get it done professionally. If you don't use the right tone for your roots, you will have orange hair.

Nah. It doesn't need to be blond.
It looks tacky when people with dark colored hair have it.

it's not going to be drastic. even just being out in the sun lightens your hair color. if you live by a beach, go there. if you don't, then just put in the lemon juice and sit outside.
edit: a thumbs down for what? i have natural ';dirty blonde'; hair, and from my own experience, your hair gets lighter when you are out in the sun consistently. lemon juice has acids and other compounds in it that change your hair and the sun light brings out the lightness. your best bet is going to the beach with the salt water.I want to highlight my hair with lemon juice.. bad idea??

A better alternative would actually be a Sun-In product, they are simple hair sprays that let you do exactly what lemon juice does but with less chance of damage.
I used to do that all the time! Easiest and cheapest way to lighten your hair! Just streak (or drench, if you prefer) lemon juice all over your hair, then go out in the sun for an hour or two. Do this all summer and you will have blonde! Also, if you want red tints/shades in your hair, you can also use the same technique as above, but with black coffee :)
well no do not do it yourself to begin with. When my friend tried doing highlights her self her dark hair mixed with the highlighter and her hair went orange because her hair was to dark. You hairdresser knows how to make sure your hair goes blonde rather than copper orange.

A better option is to have your stylist do highlights--BUT, rather than using highlighting cream (a very damaging bleach consisting of powder lightener and high volume developer) ask her to use a haircolor two shades lighter, darker or more red than your natural color. Haircolor isn't damaging like highlighting cream is and the results are very pretty.
P.S. This only works if you do not already have dye on your hair.

Honey color highlights would be good. I've used caramel color before, that was good. But I think honey looks better, more natural.

If you want to save money and highlight it yourself, you could use a home kit that comes with an after-highlight deep conditioner. Most of the brands give you enough conditioner to use for several shampoos. Just be aware that the highlighted portions will tend to be more dry and tangly, so you will need to use a deep conditioner every time you shampoo. Another thing you can do is use one of the brands of silicone smoothing drops while hair is still damp. Just a couple of drops rubbed together in your palms should be plenty to give your dry hair more smoothness and shine.
i think you should but befor you do have about a week of conditioning your hair all the time with leave in conditioner if you go in the sun and then in the shower, also don't use any hairspray or gel that kind of stuff hardens and makes it crusty and dry.
So yes do but look after your hair well and its extreamly important to use good hair products that acctualy work not realy bad ones that just make it smell nice.
You could call up your hair salon and ask them if they do any deep conditioning treatments, I know you can buy them, but you get what you pay for. Be aware that you might not be able to highlight straight after that - also ask them if there's a waiting period between conditioning and highlighting. But wouldn't you rather have healthy hair then streaky hair that breaks everytime you brush it?

I also have some natural blond highlights, which of course get lighter in the summer sun.
I say try going back to your natural color, if you don't like it, you can always highlight again.

I have naturally dark hair, have been dying for years to cover gray, the color I get it dyed is still a brown color which actually I can see blond strands in the light for example in a store, BUT it is still dark looking.

I personally think you should have gold highlights, but not too light. Too blond-ish looks artificial and it would bring the color out of your face. So a kind of goldish blond would be good in my opnion.

Personally, I don't really like the look of dark beautiful hair with light highlights. I think you should either go for an Auburn or a brownish red color, or go for a medium brown that isn't too drastically different from your color now.
You have very beautiful hair as is, so make sure not to damage it too much when coloring it, or mess with the color to the point where it looks bad.
