Nah. It doesn't need to be blond.
It looks tacky when people with dark colored hair have it.
For you it might look alright, but a light tone of brown might compliment you better. It really depends and what you think looks more natural.
If you want to do it at home, you can buy a box of Garnier ';Color Breaks.'; It's really simple and it highlights the hair, but it isn't too extreme.

A caramel color!
My mom has chocolate brown hair and she just got lighter brown caramel color highlights and im soo jealous of them!
deff. not blonde. it looks way to fake
go with carmel brown highlights.
but don't get the highlights too thick, because that also looks tacky.
