Do you think this highlight idea for my hair is cool?

I have dark brown hair with light brown highlights , My highlights are almost grown out and look kinda bad now, I don't like it. My haircut is short and choppy but still long, pretty much -scence hair-. I want dark colors. I was thinking about dying the underpart of my hair black and then the light brown highlights dark red. Would that really damage my hair? Would the black even show? Should it be the other way around? Red underneath black highlights on top?Do you think this highlight idea for my hair is cool?

sometimes the black hair underneath can look good depending on your exact hair color. i reccommend that you get auburn highlights in your natural hair color. it wont damage your hair and looks very natural=)
i don't dark brown looks good with black. the black would show depending on your haircut, but your longest layer in the back has to be visible.maybe it should be the other way around.
I knew this one girl who I saw a lot on my bus one time and she had short brown hair and red and black and blond highlights. I don't know if it may sound bad but it actually looked really good so maybe try something like that.
